Tips & Tricks

These days, it's hard to find a quality costume shop. Most customers are accustomed to Halloween superstores, staffed by unhelpful, unknowledgeable employees whose only concession to Customer Service is to wave a hand vaguely in the direction of your desired costume.

Not so, at Alter Ego. We provide personal service to each and every customer to walk through our door. This new experience has proved disorienting to many of our customers, so we have taken it upon ourselves to provide you with a few tips and tricks to get the most out of your costume experience at Alter Ego. Following these few guidelines will ensure a swift and smooth experience and have you looking your best in no time flat!

The Guide

If at all possible, please bring the person to be costumed. Not all of our garments are sized, and we have a fairly wide selection to choose from. If it is not possible for them to make it down here, taking their measurements beforehand will be a great help.

Please get here at least a half-hour before we close. Our hours are clearly posted on our homepage and our front door.

The more information you can give us, the better. We ask a lot of questions, because where you're going and what you're doing can make a big difference in what the best costume for your situation may be.

If you're looking for something very specific, trying to recreate a character from a film for instance, bringing in photos helps us a lot! Even if it's nothing more than "I like the sleeves on this one, and the collar on that one," it makes a big difference. Often, showing us what you want is easier than trying to explain it verbally.

When you've got 5,000 sq. ft. of inventory, like we do, it's easier to have a few people who know the shop's organization than to have customers wandering around looking for what they need in a sea of possibilities. We find it easiest for our customers to describe or show us what they need, while we run and fetch what suits your needs.

We especially love our customers who have a fun, creative attitude and are willing to experiment and have fun playing dress-up! Picking a costume doesn't need to be a stressful errand to run - we try to make it as easy and painless as possible.

Bulletins

Only a few more days until Halloween! Do you have a costume yet? Why not rent this year? In most cases, it's less expensive than buying a "costume-in-a-bag", and nobody else at your parties will have the same costume. Early reservations enjoy their costumes from October 23 until November 2nd; that's 11 days, or two weekends to party!
